Sold: Custom MicroKorg Module with new aftermarket power supply.
We've worked on a lot of MicroKorgs over the years and have always wanted to turn one into a module. We finally ran into a good candidate and enough free time to take the plunge. This is the result. While not perfect, it came out nice, and we're very happy with it for a first attempt. Details below:
All tacts and knobs are very responsive. We chose a board that was in great shape, so no double tapping or iffy tacts here.
The wood sides are stained and poly coated, so they should stand the test of time. We recommend an occasional wax to keep them looking nice.
All functionality except for the pitch/mod wheel (and of course the keys) has been maintained. We would have liked to include the pitch/mod wheel, but for our first attempt at a custom build, we decided to go with aesthetics over function here.
It was really tricky to line things up perfectly. While the overall look is great, it's not 100% perfect. See how the edges are slightly lifted in photos 16 and 17. The close up makes the issue look worse than it does in real life.
There is some marking on the bottom plate. See photo 18.
We will hopefully build more of these in the future, perhaps with pitch/mod wheels. Be sure to see the video below if you're interested in learning more about how this module was made.
