For sale: A beautifully restored Access Virus B Desktop. We've made extensive efforts to restore this unit to "like-new" functional condition. There are a few cosmetic issues, but otherwise this iconic 24-voice polyphonic, 16-part multitimbral synthesizer is ready to elevate your studio to the next level. Read more about this powerful synth below:
Replaced all 30 tacts with new switches rated for 1 million clicks. They sound and feel great. Everything is very responsive, like new :) See photo #19 with all the yellow tacts.
6 pots that were working but somewhat wobbly were replaced. All the rest of the pots feel nice and work properly.
The infamous 'brown capacitor' in this unit was previously replaced with a Rubycon power supply filter capacitor. Rubycon is a top-tier brand. Because the cap was produced in 2010 (data was printed on cap), We decided to upgrade to a new Nichicon UHE1E101MED (100µF/25V, low-ESR) capacitor. Nichicon, a top-tier Japanese brand, is renowned for its low impedance and long lifespan, providing cleaner and more stable power to all downstream components. Its high ripple current handling and low ESR minimize heat, ensuring exceptional reliability and performance for this beautiful B Desktop.
Put a new Energizer Lithium 2032 in it, so you shouldn't need to replace the battery for the next 10-15 years.
Includes a brand-new high quality power supply that runs at 12v 3.0 amps (more than enough, meaning it will run cool). This is the same power supply Captain B. uses on his Virus C.
The power adapter inlet shaft and contact have been properly cleaned. This, in conjunction with the new Nichicon cap, means this unit does not reset when you wiggle the cord. You may still get a reset if you really go nuts (these units are known for resetting if the cord is wiggled), but you won't have any issues here.
The synth as a whole has been properly cleaned from top to bottom, inside and out. Even the knobs are all nice and clean. No gross white/funky build-up like you see on most Viruses of this era.
The wood sides have been touched up with restaining, waxing, and polishing. They aren't quite as good as new, but look as nice as they can.
This unit has the 4 original rubber feet they ship with.
The screen is nice and bright w/ good contrast. We have no concerns about it. Down the road, if needed, recommend replacing with a red LUX PMVA.
This unit is running OS 4.9, which is more rare for a Desktop B. It's either a late run (possible, but cannot confirm), or someone upgraded the eeprom along the way. 4.9 did not add any new features, but it streamlined the delay and reverb effects for better utilization of DSP, as well as tightened up midi-arp sync. If you plan to use multi-mode a lot, then we recommend opting for a unit running 4.9.
The user RAM banks A and B have NOT been reset to factory settings. This synth started its life in Europe and ended up in California. I'm confident the patches in there are quite a bit more interesting than the factory sounds, which btw, are of course still available in the ROM banks. Who knows what treasures (or tragedies) you may find in there :)
There are minor cosmetic imperfections throughout, which is expected for a synth of this age. Please examine the photos carefully, as we've done our best to capture everything. That said, the overall the look is very clean, but want to make sure we fully disclose.
There is some minor rusting on the internal plate near the midi ports. This is not uncommon for a synth of this age. See photo #22
As always, we have a deep love for all things Virus and have poured our hearts into this one. It is for sure one of the nicer B Desktops available for sale on the web. With all tacts replaced, along with the rest of the restoration work done, it's well-prepared for a second life with its new owner.
Sale includes the synth and a new, high-quality power supply.

- Synthesis Type: Virtual analog with subtractive synthesis, frequency modulation (FM), and phase distortion for a versatile sonic palette.
- Polyphony: 24-voice polyphony for rich, layered sounds; 16-part multitimbrality for sequencing and live performance setups.
- Oscillators: 3 per voice (2 main + 1 sub-oscillator):
- Waveforms: Sawtooth, variable pulse (with PWM), sine, triangle, 64 spectral waveforms.
- Oscillator sync and 5 FM modes for dynamic, evolving textures.
- Sub-oscillator: Square or triangle waveforms for enhanced low-end depth.
- Oscillator 3: Accessible via Oscillator 2 Edit menu, functions as a semi-independent oscillator with waveform, level, and tuning control, sharing modulation capabilities.
- Filters: 2 independent resonant filters per voice, up to 36dB/octave (6-pole):
- Modes: Lowpass, highpass, bandpass, band reject; serial or parallel routing.
- Overdrive/saturation between filters for gritty, aggressive textures.
- Filter envelope: Modulates filters, Oscillator 2 pitch, or FM amount for expressive sound design.
- Effects: Up to 82 simultaneous DSP effects (5 per multitimbral part):
- Reverb: MIDI-syncable pre-delay, spacious sound design.
- Delay: MIDI-syncable with variable feedback and preset patterns, pre-reverb in signal path.
