SOLD: "The Most Beautiful B" – a lovingly restored Access Virus B Desktop. We've put extensive work into bringing this unit back to like-new functional condition. There are a few minor cosmetic issues, but otherwise, this iconic 24-voice polyphonic, 16-part multitimbral synthesizer is ready to make music again.
Replaced all 30 tacts with new switches rated for 1 million clicks. They sound and feel great. Everything is very responsive, like new :) See photo #15 with all the yellow tacts.
The original Nippon Chemi-Con power supply filter capacitor was replaced with a Panasonic EEU-FR1E101. Its high ripple current handling and low ESR minimize heat, ensuring exceptional reliability and performance for this B Desktop. We sometimes use Nichicons, but this Panasonic is of slightly higher quality (though either is fine).
Put a new Energizer Lithium 2032 in it, so you shouldn't need to replace the battery for the next 10-15 years.
This unit comes with a high-quality 12V 2.0A power supply with a 14mm barrel and 2.1mm inner barrel diameter. This means we get a nice tight fit and plenty of contact to keep the unit from resetting if the cable is wiggled (a common issue with sub-par power supplies). Wiggle away, this unit will not reset.
The synth as a whole has been properly cleaned from top to bottom, inside and out. Even the knobs are all nice and clean. No gross white/funky build-up like you see on most Viruses of this era.
The wood sides have been touched up with restaining, waxing, and polishing. They aren't quite as good as new, but look as nice as they can.
This unit has the 4 original feet from the factory.
The screen is nice and bright w/ good contrast. We have no concerns about it. Down the road, if needed, recommend replacing with a red LUX PMVA.
The user RAM banks A and B have NOT been reset to factory settings. This was someone's synth for over a decade. Who knows what treasures (or tragedies) you may find in there :)
There are a handful of minor cosmetic imperfections. Please see photos 17-22.
As always, we have a deep love for all things Virus and poured our hearts into this one. It's the nicest B Desktop we’ve ever seen (at least in this decade). With all tacts replaced and the rest of the restoration work, it's well-prepared for a second life.
Sale includes the synth and a high-quality power supply.

- Synthesis Type: Virtual analog with subtractive synthesis, frequency modulation (FM), and phase distortion for a versatile sonic palette.
- Polyphony: 24-voice polyphony for rich, layered sounds; 16-part multitimbrality for sequencing and live performance setups.
- Oscillators: 3 per voice (2 main + 1 sub-oscillator):
- Waveforms: Sawtooth, variable pulse (with PWM), sine, triangle, 64 spectral waveforms.
- Oscillator sync and 5 FM modes for dynamic, evolving textures.
- Sub-oscillator: Square or triangle waveforms for enhanced low-end depth.
- Oscillator 3: Accessible via Oscillator 2 Edit menu, functions as a semi-independent oscillator with waveform, level, and tuning control, sharing modulation capabilities.
- Filters: 2 independent resonant filters per voice, up to 36dB/octave (6-pole):
- Modes: Lowpass, highpass, bandpass, band reject; serial or parallel routing.
- Overdrive/saturation between filters for gritty, aggressive textures.
- Filter envelope: Modulates filters, Oscillator 2 pitch, or FM amount for expressive sound design.
- Effects: Up to 82 simultaneous DSP effects (5 per multitimbral part):
- Reverb: MIDI-syncable pre-delay, spacious sound design.
- Delay: MIDI-syncable with variable feedback and preset patterns, pre-reverb in signal path.
- Chorus/Flanger: Lush modulation effects for depth and movement.
- Retro Phaser: 6-stage stereo phaser with 24 filter poles for vintage and modern tones.
- Distortion: Multiple types (light, hard, digital) for aggressive, crunchy sounds.
- 32-Band Vocoder: Programmable, uses oscillators/noise as carrier, auto-sense frees polyphony.
- Ring Modulator: For metallic, bell-like tones.
- Analog Boost: Enhances bass and warmth for vintage analog character.
- Envelope Follower: Modulates parameters via external audio input.
- Modulation:
- Modulation Matrix: 3 sources, 6 destinations (e.g., mod wheel to filter cutoff, resonance, or FM amount).
- 3 LFOs per voice: 68 waveforms (triangle, saw, square, S&H, S&G, 64 digital).
- LFO 1/2: Modulate pitch, pulse width, resonance, filter gain (tremolo/distortion).
- LFO 3: Dedicated to oscillator pitch for subtle drift or vibrato effects.
- Envelope Mode: LFOs can function as one-shot envelopes for percussive effects.
- Key Follow: Adjusts LFO speed based on key position.
- 2 ADSTR Envelopes: Filter (modulates filters, pitch, or FM) and amplifier (snappy to ambient decays).
- Velocity Control: Modulates oscillator shape, PWM, FM, filter envelope, resonance, amplitude, panorama.
- Memory: 1024 programs (256 user, 768 ROM, 128 multi); additional soundsets available via OS updates.
- Arpeggiator: 16 independent arpeggiators (one per part) with 64 preset patterns, adjustable modes (Up, Down, Up&Down, As-Played, Random, Chord), octave range (1-4), swing, note length, and hold function; no user-programmable patterns on hardware.
- Control & Interface: 32 knobs, 31 buttons, 29 LEDs, backlit LCD; Adaptive Parameter Smoothing for seamless MIDI and knob transitions; dedicated effects menu button, part selection buttons for multimode.
- Connectivity:
- Audio Outputs: 6 balanced outputs (3 stereo pairs, +4 dB, soft limiting) for flexible multitimbral routing.
- Audio Inputs: 2 mono for external signal processing or vocoder use.
- MIDI: In, Out, Thru with full parameter control, including Polyphonic Pressure.
- Internal Busses: 2 stereo (Aux 1, Aux 2) for internal patch routing.
- Converters: 24-bit D/A, 18-bit A/D for high-fidelity audio.
- Physical Design: Robust metal chassis, red color scheme with wooden end cheeks, compact desktop form factor (Virus B); 61-key semi-weighted keyboard with velocity and aftertouch (Virus KB); 37-key velocity-sensitive keyboard (Indigo).
- Additional Features:
- Unison Mode: Stacks voices for thick basses and leads, enhanced by Analog Boost (reduces polyphony to 4–8 voices).
