For sale: Access Virus A desktop synthesizer in perfect working order and excellent cosmetic condition. This is an exceptionally clean original Virus A with a fully recapped mainboard and other upgrades we made along the way. Nearly three decades after the Virus first arrived, it's wonderful to see an OG looking (and sounding!) so good.
Details below:
All capacitors on the mainboard have been replaced with modern equivalents that were carefully selected to match the specifications and characteristics of the original capacitor configuration, not just the capacitance values. We took care to select appropriate modern replacements for the original caps from nearly 30 years ago (see photos 20-21).
The battery has been replaced with an Energizer lithium cell. You should not need to replace the battery for ~10 years.
We have replaced the power switch with a new one, removing another common failure point for the series.
Three pots have been replaced with clones of the originas. These are aftermarket replacements, not OEM ALPS parts, but they feel at home alongside the originals.
The Store button has been replaced with a high-quality, brand-name tact switch rated for 3 million clicks. The rest of the original tacts (rated for 5 million clicks) function perfectly.
Ships with a new, high-quality Triad 9V 2.0A power supply. This lower-voltage supply allows the mainboard to run cooler, especially during extended sessions.
Running OS 2.8 (the latest OS for the A series).
We have cleaned the unit thoroughly inside and out. Even the knobs are clean. No gross sticky buildup like you see on many other Viruses of this era.
There are a few very minor blemishes in the finish and on the wood sides. Please examine all photos carefully, as we have done our best to document the condition.
This is a gorgeous Virus A. With all the maintenance performed, it's well prepared for its next life :)
